Serhiy Zhadan’s A NEW ORTHOGRAPHY named Finalist in PEN America’s Translation Award for Poetry 2021

Lost Horse Press is thrilled to learn that Serhiy Zhadan’s A New Orthography has been named a finalist in PEN America’s Translation Award for Poetry 2021. We congratulate poet Serhiy Zhadan, translators John Hennessy and Ostap Kin, and Series Editor Grace Mahoney on this well-deserved recognition, and wish them much luck—all of our digits are crossed—on 8 April when the winner will be announced. Congratulations!

Message from PEN America:

“On behalf of PEN America President Ayad Akhtar, this year’s judges—Daniel Borzutsky, Marissa Davis, Meg Matich—and all of us at PEN America, it is my sincere honor to inform you that Serhiy Zhadan’s A New Orthography has been selected as a Finalist for the 2021 PEN Award for Poetry in Translation.

The winners will be celebrated at the PEN America Literary Awards Ceremony, to take place virtually on April 8, 2021, and will be open to a global audience. Dubbed by 2020 host Seth Meyers as “the Oscars for books,” the awards ceremony will confer over $380,000 in prize money to writers and translators across all stages of their careers.”

During this difficult time and year, your book has been a source of inspiration for many. We are grateful for the work you do, and for your commitment to the power of literature.
