BALEFIRE named Finalist in High Plains Book Awards

Shann Ray’s Balefire has been named a Finalist in the 2015 High Plains Book Awards, in the Poetry category.

The Billings Public Library Board has established the High Plains Book Awards to recognize regional authors and/or literary works which examine and reflect life on the High Plains including the states of Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, and Kansas, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan.

This year, thirty books were named as Finalists in ten categories for the 8th annual High Plains Book Awards. Twenty-four different publishers from Canada and the US were represented in this year’s competition. Of the 34 finalists, 13 were from Montana, and six were from Canada. One of the finalists is a past High Plains Book Award winner: Shann Ray’s American Masculine won two awards in 2012, one for Short Stories and one for Best First Book. This year Ray’s poetry collection, Balefire, is a finalist.

We congratulate Shann Ray, and thank the final judges of the High Plains Book Awards for their selection of Balefire!
