SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Lost Horse Press is happy to consider works of any kind that are suitable for publication by a literary press. Works that meet this criterion include—but are not confined to—fiction, short fiction, and creative nonfiction. Lost Horse Press does not consider children’s or young adult, fantasy, science fiction, romance, mystery, thriller or mass market fiction, or rhyming verse.
Regrettably, Lost Horse Press is no longer accepting unsolicited poetry manuscripts for review. However, we welcome submissions for The Idaho Prize for Poetry, a national competition offering $1000 prize money plus publication for a book-length manuscript. Please check the submission guidelines for The Idaho Prize for Poetry online here.
Fiction and creative nonfiction submissions should be complete, book-length texts, although submission of an excerpt may be useful in making an initial assessment of a work’s suitability. Submissions should be typed—double-spaced—on white, unbound paper.
Lost Horse Press receives over 1000 submissions a year, so please be patient. It takes us at least 6 to 9 months—sometimes longer—to review your work.
Lost Horse Press does accept multiple submissions, but please let us know immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.
The author should provide a self-addressed stamped envelope for notification of acceptance or for return of the manuscript. Manuscripts will be recycled if no SASE is enclosed.
We publish only American writers.
The decision of the Lost Horse Press editors will be final. Authors will be notified as soon as possible of publisher’s decision. Authors’ work will be handled with all due care, but authors are advised that they should retain complete copies of all works submitted.
AT THIS TIME, LOST HORSE PRESS IS NOT READING FICTION OR CREATIVE NONFICTION MANUSCRIPTS. PLEASE CHECK THIS WEB SITE FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.
