Marilynne Robinson Young Writers

Lost Horse Press and the East Bonner County Library have recently established the Marilynne Robinson Young Writers Fund in response to a generous bequest. The Fund has been established to honor Sandpoint-born writer, Marilynne Robinson, whose novel, Gilead, won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize.
Donations to the Fund will be used to provide honoraria to writing and book arts instructors, to purchase required supplies, to match funds for grants, to cover instructors’ travel expenses, and to help with cost of publicity and outreach for the annual Young Writers of the Lost Horse creative writing and book arts conference.
In 2001, Lost Horse Press and the Sandpoint Library started a program to help children in elementary through high school strengthen their writing skills and heighten their interest in writing.
Lost Horse Press invites professional instructors—writers, poets, bookbinders, book illustrators—to spend two days presenting dynamic writing and book arts workshops to students. These workshops are provided at no charge for all Bonner County students in grades 5 through 12, and they are designed to give children a fresh perspective on the process and pleasure of writing.
