Calligraphy Series at High Hopes

Lost Horse Press is pleased to announce the Calligraphy
Series at High Hopes. Workshops will be held at the Hi Hopes Café
in Hope, Idaho.
INTRO TO CALLIGRAPHY: Have you ever
wanted to learn Calligraphy? Find out what it’s all about at this
free introduction. Instructor Lanie Johnson will present an explanation/demonstration
of everything you ever wanted to know about “beautiful writing”
from tools and techniques to materials, uses, and some surprising
applications. Thursday, June 3. 6:30-8:30 pm. Free.
CALLIGRAPHY I: Basic,
intensive course in the art of hand lettering with the chisel-edge
pen. An opportunity to gain proficiency in 4 weeks. The focus will
be on construction of letterforms and elements of style. Recommended
for those with time for regular practice. (There will be between-course
assignments for those who plan to take Calligraphy II.)
6 sessions. 6:30-8:30 pm, Tuesday & Thursdays, June 8-24. $75 plus
materials.
CALLIGRAPHY II: Expressive use of calligraphy
as an art form through integration of letters and imagery. Students
will experiment with various tools and techniques: one-color, multicolor
images, “painterly” images with resist, watercolor and acrylic.
Recommended for those experienced with art media. 4 sessions. 6:30-8:30
pm, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 29 June-8 July. $75 plus materials.
Lanie Johnson taught calligraphy and
art to children and adults in New York City for over 20 years. Her
calligraphic work has been shown in Society of Scribes exhibits
at the Brooklyn Museum as well as the Ceres Gallery and other locations,
and is owned by the Roerich Museum in New York and by many private
collectors.
